WHAT: October baseball is usually framed around favorites, odds, and predictions. But the stories I remember are rarely only about the strongest team. These are five players and teams I find myself rooting for—some because of what they have overcome, some because of the way they play together, and some simply because they are hard not to like. You don’t have to agree with my picks. Each video stands on its own, so start with the player or team you are most curious about. I hope one of them gives you a reason to care before the first pitch.

VIDEO NOTE 1: The White Sox Are Building Something AgainNBC Sports · September 6, 2026 · Short team feature After losing 121 games in 2024, the White Sox are trying to change more than their record. This short video looks at the young players and the new culture forming around them. I don’t know how far this team will go yet, but that is part of why I want to watch. Seeing a team slowly find its confidence again is its own kind of baseball story.
